the Little Music School
At FSPA’s Little Music School, every child can discover the joy of music from the very start. Through playful exploration, creativity, and hands-on learning, children as young as 18 months are welcomed into a fun, nurturing environment where music becomes a natural part of their world. More than just lessons, Little Music School inspires confidence, sparks imagination, and builds a lifelong love of the arts one joyful note at a time.

Meet Kim
Little Music School is led by Director Kim Rezendes, who has been part of FSPA since its very first day in 1985. As a student herself, Kim experienced firsthand how the lessons and community at 38 Main Street shape young lives. Now, as both a teacher and a mom, she brings that same passion and care to every class. Since founding the program in 2005, Kim has shared the joy of music with hundreds of children, inspiring creativity, confidence, and a love of learning that lasts well beyond the classroom.
The Little Music School Experience
Learning Through the “Three Cs”
At the heart of Little Music School is our unique Three Cs approach – Color, Creativity, and Core. Using color to make written music more accessible, children quickly connect symbols on the page to sound and movement. Creativity is nurtured through singing, playing, and imaginative group activities that allow every child to express music in their own way. The Core foundations of rhythm, ear training, and music reading ensure that each student builds strong, age-appropriate skills from the very beginning.
Early Musical Foundations
Little Music School engages children as young as 18 months in hands-on piano instruction and group music-making. In each class, children explore ear training, rhythm, tonal recognition, sight singing, and note reading, building the essential tools of musicianship. Alongside these skills, students are introduced to key terminology and concepts that prepare them for a lifelong appreciation of music.
Confidence and Creativity
More than just piano lessons, Little Music School is designed to inspire confidence, independence, and creativity. Through weekly group classes and peer recitals, children learn to share music with others while developing important life skills: communication, cooperation, and self-expression.
Individualized Attention in a Supportive Setting
With a maximum student–teacher ratio of 7:1, every child receives individualized guidance while still enjoying the fun and energy of group play. This balance ensures that each child’s unique learning style is honored, while still encouraging collaboration, teamwork, and peer learning.
Benefits Beyond Music
Little Music School not only cultivates young musicians, but also supports children’s overall development. Students strengthen fine and gross motor skills, improve coordination and memory, and enhance creativity and comprehension – all while discovering the joy of music-making.
